WARNING: For personal reasons the photographer Franco Fontana will unfortunately not be able to participate at LuganoPhotoDays. His workshop will be held by photographer Didier Ruef.

Franco Fontana was born in Modena (Italy) in 1933. He approached photography in the sixties, attending local amateur clubs.
In 1963 he shows his work  at the “Biennale del Colore” in Vienna and in 1968 he has his first solo exhibit in Modena. Thus began a long and very successful career, exhibitions and publications, celebrated in 2006 with an honorary degree conferred by the faculty of Architecture of the Turin Polythecnic.

Since his beginnings, Fontana is devoted to landscapes and emphasizes its colors and geometrical structures. This is why his work is often associated to painting: from color field painting to the abstract, from realism to American pop. His works however are born and exclusively developed in photography, the form of expression of which, for years, he has explored limits and possibilities.
